Application Support Engineer – Front Office Trading Systems

Central London | On-site

Are you an experienced Production Support Engineer with a strong background in front-office trading systems, FIX connectivity and algorithmic trading?

We're looking for a hands-on engineer to join a small, high-performing team supporting global derivatives trading environments. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with traders, product teams and engineers in a fast-paced environment where system reliability, performance and rapid problem-solving are critical.

? The Role

As an App Support Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the stability and resilience of critical trading systems. You'll take ownership of incidents, drive root-cause analysis and deliver robust, scalable solutions to ensure uninterrupted trading operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing hands-on production support for front-office trading applications and global derivatives trading environments.
  • Troubleshooting complex technical issues and driving root-cause analysis through to resolution.
  • Supporting FIX connectivity and end-to-end trading workflows across exchanges and clients.
  • Responding rapidly to incidents while turning tactical fixes into long-term, scalable improvements.
  • Proactively monitoring systems, improving reliability and strengthening operational resilience.
  • Managing critical trading workflows in collaboration with engineering, infrastructure and delivery teams.
  • Supporting exchange and vendor certifications, deployments and trading system initiatives.
  • Contributing to an on-call rota, with occasional coverage of US trading hours.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience supporting front-office trading applications in a production environment.
  • Solid FIX engineering experience, including exchange or client-side FIX flows.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills, ideally in Python or similar languages.
  • A good understanding of the full trading lifecycle, including order capture, execution, allocations, settlement and compliance.
  • Familiarity with algorithmic trading technology and workflows.
  • Experience with application deployment best practices and exchange/vendor certification.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of messaging systems, networking, TCP and multicast.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be a significant advantage:

  • EMS/OMS platforms and third-party trading networks, such as TT, NYFIX, Bloomberg and TradingScreen.
  • Real-time market data distribution platforms, including RTDS, DACS, ADH and ADS.
  • Market data feed handlers, consolidated feeds, multicast traffic management and message queueing.
  • Time-series databases and frameworks such as kdb+ and Shakti.
  • Commodity trading and capital markets.
  • Algorithmic trading regulation, audit, compliance and RTS 6 requirements.

What We're Looking For

You'll be proactive, technically curious and comfortable working under pressure in a trading room environment. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll work closely with traders, developers and stakeholders to resolve issues, manage changing priorities and deliver meaningful improvements.
